Sunbird, The Nesting

Nesting Season of Sunbird varies from February to June. Both the Purple and purple-rumped Sunbird has similar nesting behavior.I have discussed in detail how they build their nest in my post " Sunbird, The nest". The female generally lays 2 to 3 eggs of grayish color with brown spots. The female incubates the egg for a period of about two weeks. The young birds are fed by both the parents. The chicks feed almost 3 times more than their body weight. It is my personal observation that both the parent visit the nest almost 40 times in an hour to feed the chicks. Fledging period is almost 12 days.It is a great pleasure to watch the chicks coming out of the nest and jumping from branch to branch and the parents following them.

This March,I found a Sunbird nest, just near my,terrace in a branch of Berry tree, near a beehive and a water tap kept slightly open for the sake of the Birds.
On the 17th of March,2013,one Chick was being followed by its parents with the Male feeding it without stop, and the Mom keeping watch. Some children of workers entered my House twice that day,as Almond nuts are aplenty.I thought they took the Chick away.
But today,on the 30th of march 2013,I saw the Male Sunbird first. Then I saw two female Chicks, hovering to drink nectar from the flowers in a Big Neem tree in my House. My Jpoy knew no bounds!
I think the Chick was saved and fed by its parents.I observed the Birds and everything matches with what you have stated in the article.
In my Garden[I call it a Mini Forest],there are,ALSO, Sparrows[with a Chick],Mynas,Parrots,Indian Robins,Cuckoo,Magpies,Black Django,Squirrels,a Beehive[this is the sixth one],Spotted Dove, etc.
Coucal sometimes pays a visit. An Ash-coloured Bird with a very fearful and loud,Shriek and many Brown Coloured ones, with lesser Shriek, visit every morning for snacks,Almonds, berries and of course WATER.
Your article is very good.So also your Blog.Congrats.
